Toronto Shopping
Toronto is a city that offers ample choices when it comes to selective buying, and you can find almost everything here from retro-outfits to classy couture, and from common household gadgets to sophisticated electronic gadgets. Although the number of shopping districts is exhaustive, some popular places to shop are shopping centers like Toronto Eaton Center and the Yorkville-Bloor area and famous store chains like the Winners stores and the Hudson Bay Company.
The Toronto Eaton Center
The Toronto Eaton Center is a light and spacious shopping mall in the heart of downtown Toronto. The third largest mall in Canada, it houses over 250 shops, and may be the biggest tourist attraction in Canada. Prices run the gamut, delighting conspicuous consumption shoppers and frugal spenders alike. The glass domed mall has four levels. Artist Michael Snow has designed a gigantic mobile of Canadian geese and his work of art is named, “Flight Stop.”
The Yorkville-Bloor Area
Yorkville presents a delightful contrast to the ultra modern skyscrapers and designer shopping malls. A section of downtown Toronto, it consists of antiquated Victorian architecture and houses art galleries, restaurant, and unique boutiques. Running adjacent to it is Bloor Avenue, featuring exclusive brand name retailers like Hazelton Lanes, Gucci, Hermes, Prada, and Holt Renfew.
Winners
The Winners stores are spread in various neighborhoods and it is Canada’s answer to TJ Maxx in the United States. Like its American counterpart, Winners sells designer labels for less; in fact, 60 percent less than regular prices; for instance, offering brands like Kenneth Cole ladies shoes and Diesel jeans at a jaw-dropping discount. Although the stores are large and overwhelming, they thrill the treasure-hunter and bargain-finder breed of shoppers. In all, there are eight Winners scattered through Toronto.
The Hudson's Bay Company
The Hudson's Bay Company has a flagship store at the Bay and Queen corner and it is directly across from the Toronto Eaton Center. It is one of the oldest corporations in Canada and has thousands of store chains in Canada and several in Toronto. It is a department store offering clothes and household products. Shoppers can even have a quick lunch at the store.
